You Are Enough

20140511-115905.jpg

Today is a loaded day. A beautiful day but so emotionally loaded. As each year passes it gains more significance for me, or rather more depth and reflection to the layers of motherhood and being female. Embracing the divine feminine essence that flows through all of us but particularly those who have incarnated in this lifetime as a woman.

Today is a joyous occasion for all of those who have been blessed to be the mother of any children, biological or not. It also a day of pain for others as I spoke of in Mama’s Day a few years ago. Adults and children who have lost their mothers, women {and men} who have lost babies and children and those women and couples who want to have a child.

Over recent months though I have reflected on how I mother. How much it is taken personally, how much is “right and wrong” when there really is no answer to that. How much pressure and expectation we place on ourselves as mothers. I can only comment on being a mother now. Im sure there has always been those emotional and psychological thoughts that all women have had to balance in the past. Though I feel that this generation of women and possibly the one before have had another layer added to the emotional conflicting nature of motherhood. The “you can have it all”. We have been so blessed with the progress our ancestors made with womens rights and pushes for equality but it has also manifested further complexity and confusion for females to manoeuvre.

Life is about the roles we take on. We are first and foremost the individual. We then pick up each ball to juggle or each hat to place on our hat stand. With more freedom and choices comes more pressure and responsibility and whether we like it or not the impact of societal expectation. This can be overwhelming. Yes we are all psychologically responsible for how we react to others and their views but we also have to battle our own cognitions and core beliefs that evolve as we move through the years from girl to woman. These thoughts and beliefs can be very entrenched, more often than not we all have one or two that relate to our self worth and our self love.  It does not matter what role you take whether it be that of mother, your occupation, daughter/granddaughter or even wife it will not give you your self worth or your self love. You have to do that yourself.

So today,

To those women wishing to conceive, you are enough.

To those women who are struggling with motherhood, you are enough.

To those women who are feeling lost, you are enough.

To those women who feel they are not balancing work, life and motherhood, you are enough.

To those teens and younger women, you are enough and you will always be enough.

Today and every day, it does not matter what role you identify with, hat you have on or ball you are juggling. What matters, and only matters is that you know you are enough. You are more than enough as you are.

Happy Mothers Day, today I want you to heal. Heal yourself.
